Services for Mrs. Carolyn Morgan Holley, 88, of Heflin, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden, with Rev. Carol Heard and Rev. Judy Bazer officiating.
Interment will follow at Brushwood Cemetery in Dubberly.
Mrs. Holley died peacefully on August 4, 2012 in Ruston after a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 26, 1923 in Shongaloo and lived in Heflin for the past 66 years.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a caring friend to those who knew her. Mrs. Holley taught Home Economics and Science in the Webster Parish School system in Shongaloo, Heflin and Sibley for more than 30 years, touching many young people's lives. She served as sponsor of the FHA and 4-H clubs and even had a short stint as the girl's basketball coach.
She was a faithful member of Heflin United Methodist Church serving there for more than 58 years on numerous church committees and in United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Holley was a long-time member of Heflin Homemakers Club and also served as Secretary of Heflin Fire Department. Mrs. Carolyn enjoyed quilting with her friends and studying with her Monday Bible Study group. She also loved sports and especially enjoyed watching basketball games.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Holley; her parents, Vance and Minnie Morgan; and a brother, Thurman Morgan.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann Thigpen and husband, Jack of Ruston and Carol Holley of Marlboro, Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Phillip Thigpen and wife, Bonnie of West Monroe and Lisa Lawton and husband, Billy of Fishers, Indiana; her great grandchildren, Grace Lawton and Luke Lawton of Fishers, Indiana, her brother-in-law, W.B. Holley of Heflin; her sisters-in-law, Ela Upshaw of Minden, Eleanor Holley of Minden and Rita Holley of Dubberly; dear friend, Laurie Lober of Marlboro, Massachusetts; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers are Harold Holley, Jerry Holley, Joe Holley, Ricky Jones, Billy Lawton and Phillip Thigpen.
Honorary pallbearers are Ken Holley, Mike Hosler, Keith Morgan, Joe Lynn Robinson and Justin Robinson.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, August 8, 2012) at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
The family extends its deepest gratitude for the outstanding personal care given to her by Jessica Glossom, Dorothy Corbin, Effie Lofton, Joan Moore and the CNA's, nurses and staff of Princeton Place.
