Warriors claim second place at Regional Track Meet

ALEXANDRIA —The Lakeside track teams qualified three girls and six boys to the Class 2A State Track meet at the Region 1-2A Meet held at Alexandria Senior High.

Team wise the the Warrior boys finished second with 106 points to champion Calvary's 108. The Lady Warriors scored 33 points for a ninth place finish in the 17-team Region made up of District's 1,2,3 & 5 2A.

The Warriors scored 31 points in the field. Michael Stephens tallied 18 of those points as he qualified for state in the discus with a first place toss of 143'8" and in the shot with a second place heave of 46'9".

T.J. Carpenter placed fourth in the javelin (151'10") and fifth in the high jump (6'0"). Chris Kennon placed fourth in the high jump (6'0") and fifth in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 41'10 1/2". Darryl Moore added a sixth place in the long jump at 21'2".

On the track Chris Lewis and Enrique Soto claimed five of the eight individual events.

Lewis won the 100 at 10.75 and the 200 at 21.74. Soto, who was named high point man, won the 800 at 2:00.77 (new school record), the 1600 at 4:41.28, and the 3200 at 10:05.19.

Lewis and Soto also joined with Cody Poe and Darryl Moore in leading the 1600 meter Relay to a state qualifying second place finish with a season best time of 3:31.22.

Poe also placed fifth in the 110 Hurdles at 16.29. Senior Zach Levesque had another excellent performance as he finished second in the 3200 at 10:16.65 and third in the 800 with a personal best of 2:08.14 to qualify for state in both events.

James Taylor rounded out the Warrior scoring with a sixth place in the 1600 at 4:59.76.

For the Lady Warriors, Shanae Collins, Heather Scheneck, and Alissa Landers qualified for state.

Collins took third in the long jump with a leap of 16' 7 1/2". Scheneck placed third in the 800 with a personal best of 2:35.21. Landers was second in the 3200 with a personal best of 12:27.87 and was third in the 1600 at 5:50.57.

Other scorers for the ladies were Jessica Bridges who was fourth in the javelin at 102'5",

Jasmine Turner who was fifth in the shot at 31'9", and Anna Davidson who was sixth in the 3200 at 14:43.88.

The AA State Meet will be held on Thursday, May 3, at the LSU Track Complex with running events beginning at 5 p.m.
