Derrick Parker, Greg Shyne honored for their final seasons at LSUS
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2011 - 12 Division I Men's Basketball All-America Teams on Wednesday.
The selections are made by the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee and comprises a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team.
There are 10 members on each of the first three All-America teams. LSU Shreveport's Derrick Parker was selected to the 2nd Team while Greg Shyne was honored as an honorable mention.
The Minden natives, turned in another outstanding season as they helped lead the Pilots to postseason.
Parker, the 6-6 senior forward, highlighted his NAIA All-American campaign averaging a double-double scoring 19.2 points per game and pulling down 11.5 rebounds per game.
He scored double figures in all but one contest this season and totaled his point to more than 20 on 17 occasions. The second teamer turned in an impressive 24 double-doubles. Parker's scored his season-high of 31 points against nationally ranked, Our Lady of the Lake University and pulled down his season high of 21 boards against the University of Science & Arts.
Shyne, an honorable mention selection, led the Pilots in scoring averaging 20.6 points per contest while pulling down 4.1 rebounds per game. The 6-0 guard scored double figures in all but two games this season leading the Pilots to another magical season. The high flying Minden native had one of his best games of his career in Kansas City lighting up the scoreboard for the season-high of 32 points getting the Pilots past Southern Poly and into the Quarter Finals for the first time in school history.
These two seniors will always be remembered and never forgotten at LSUS. In addition to their amazing play, they will also be remembered for their unselfish play.
