CLINTON. MS. — The Glenbrook Apaches closed out their 2011-12 basketball season with a 57-43 loss to Hilcrest in the MAIS Overall Tournament in Clinton, Mississippi Tuesday afternoon.
"It was a great opportunity for us to play in the overall tournament," Glenbrook head coach Chris Kourvelas said. "A chance for these guys to play on the Mississippi College court was pretty neat for them."
Hilcrest led Glenbrook 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and then 25-17 at the half. Hilcrest out-scored the Apaches 19-13 in the third quarter and then the two teams played even in the fourth to make the final 57-43.
"We played good basketball, but Hilcrest was a little too athletic for us," Kourvelas said. "However, we were able to make shots and get defensive stops and rebounded fairly well too. Playing a AAA school and getting beat by 14 is really not as bad as it seems, especially when you are just a little A school."
Zach Specht led the Apaches with 11 points and six rebounds, and Cade Spurlock added eight points. Terez "Mookie" Mack scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists, while Cory Walker had six points and seven rebounds. Caydan Maloney added six points and five rebounds.
"It has been a great season," Kourvelas said. "And I want to thank the players, the school, the administration and our fans for all the support this season. It has definitely been one to remember."
