BATON ROUGE — Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Lakeside sophomore Chris Lewis put his name at the top of the national leader board in the 55 meter dash.
The Lakeside speedster ran a 6.31 to win the 55 meter dash at the Louisiana State indoor qualifying meet at LSU. His time replaced a 6.34 run by Loranger's Jeryl Brazil (a 2013 LSU Tiger football commit) in the prelims as the US #1 time.
Lewis easily won his prelim heat at 6.48. Using a tremendous start, Lewis powered his way to victory in the finals at 6.31 with Brazil finishing second at 6.38.
The final featured a field which included Brazil (2011 3A outdoor 100 & 200 meter champion, Derrick Raymond (2011 4A 100 and 200 outdoor champion), and Landon Collins (2011 Louisiana's Mr. Football). Lewis broke his own record of 6.39 which he set as a freshman.
The Warriors took 12 participants to the meet and it appears that all will qualify for the Indoor State Meet which will be held on Feb. 18 at LSU.
Chris Kennon in his first career high jump competition placed seventh after clearing 5'10". Aubrey Miles placed ninth in the shot put with a toss of 45'2".
Lakeside's distance runners also had a great day. Seventh-grader Alisa Landers ran a school record 12:48.60 in her first ever 3200 finishing sixth. Heather Schenck ran a personal best at 2:46.78 to place 22nd in the 800. Anna Davidson placed 16th in the 1600 at 6:09.38.
Enrique Soto easily won his heat of 1600 with a time of 4:40.11 James Taylor finished 28th at 5:06.87 in the 1600. In the 3200.
Zach Levesque placed 4fourth with a personal best of 10:24.68 while Eric Greene ran a personal best of 10.33.03 for sixth placed.
Soto, Taylor, Green and Levesque combined for a 9:14.94 in the 4X800 relay which seeds them third in Division II.
Cody Poe ran an 8.79 55 meters hurdles which places him in the top 10 in Division II.
Poe also has one of the most interesting schedules the next few weeks, as he will be participating in the state wrestling championships in Kenner on Feb. 11 and the state Indoor Track meet on Feb. 18 at LSU.
