DOYLINE — The Lakeside Warriors split a pair of games in the Doyline Tournament over the weekend. Friday night they beat Dubach, 55-35, and then fell to North Webster, 54-28, in Saturday's semi-final.
In Friday night's win, Lakeside out-scored Dubach in every quarter as they went on to win.
"It was real tight early," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "But fortunately we pulled away late."
Lakeside led 12-10 after the first quarter and 23-16 at the half. The Warriors increased their lead by one (36-28) going into the fourth quarter and then out-scored Dubach, 19-7, in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
"We pretty much controlled the whole game, even though the score was close all the way," Gould said. "It was that way until we finally were able to pull away in the fourth quarter."
T.J. Carpenter led the Warriors with 22 points and Taurus Erving added eight. Rontrell Kinzey dropped in seven.
Saturday, Carpenter fell into early foul trouble and eventually fouled out as the Warriors lost to North Webster, 54-28.
"T.J. was in foul trouble and before we could get him out he got his fourth foul," Gould said. "Then he was called for a technical, which gave his fifth foul. It was just a case of a little bad luck and then a not so good decision by T.J. that kind of hurt him."
Lakeside started slow, and even with Carpneter's foul trouble, Gould felt his team was in the game at the half.
"We started off really slow, but we hung around and only trailed 34-22 at halftime," he said. "We weren't feeling too bad, Because North Webster had played really well, but we still had a chance. But we couldn't score in the second half. We just could not put the ball in the basket. We only scored six points in the second half."
The Warriors will be back in action tonight as Lakeside heads to Ringgold for three games. The JV boys game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity girls and then the varsity boys.
