Lakeside to host Warrior Invitational on Saturday
BATON ROUGE — The Lakeside cross country teams made a successful appearance in the LSU Tiger Cross Country Invitational held at Highland Park in Baton Rouge.
Enrique Soto won the boys' 5K championship with a 56 second advantage over the second place finisher. Hannah Shirely finished as runner-up in the 5K girls division.
Overall, in the boy's division Soto sped to a personal best of 16:06 for the 5K distance. Zach Levesque finished fourth at 17:06. James Taylor finished 17th at 18:01. Eric Greene placed 35th at 19:12. Travis Walker was the fifth Lakeside runner finishing 63rd at 20:24.
Other finishers for the Warriors were; Austin McGinty (74) 20:41, Steven France (96) 21:55, Nic Petty (99) 22:03, Austin Pike (108) 23:05, J.R. Mueller (117) 24:04, Alex Robles (126) 25:58, Cody Robinson (127) 25:58, and Joseph Johnson (128) 28:05. The Lakeside team finished 3rd out of 13 teams. There were 130 male competitors.
In the girls division Lakeside finished fourth out of 10 teams.
Shirely clocked a 20:38 time to take second, and Anna Davidson ran a 22:33 for 11th place. Placing 24th with a time of 23:24 was Heather Schenck.
In her first varsity race seventh-grader Alissa Landers ran 23:34 to place 26th. Alexis Robinette was 79th with a time of 29:27. There were 89 runners.
Up next for the Warriors
The Lakeside Warriors have held an annual, invitation-only cross-country meet for over a decade. Talent-wise, this year may be the best ever.
The Warrior Invitational will be held this Saturday, October 1st at the Minden Recreation Center.
"The Warriors will host the strongest, most competitive field of competitors we have had in our time of hosting this meet," Warrior cross country coach Dan Grantham said. "We have several outstanding teams in attendance, such as 5-A power houses West Monroe and Ruston, and 4-A defending state champs Parkway."
Other competitors are 1-A power Cedar Creek, Loyola College Prep, Mansfield, Logansport, North Desoto, Haughton, Calvary, St Frederick's and the newly formed North Webster, Caddo Middle Magnet, all competing against what may be Lakeside's best boys cross country team ever.
The junior high division, begins at 8:30 a.m. The varsity girl's competition starts at 9:15 a.m. and the varsity boys will start at 10 a.m.
Parking for the meet will be at the second parking lot on the left and admission will be $3.00
