Bennie 'Shorty' Moody

Funeral services for Bennie Moody, known as "Shorty," will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Taylor. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Open visitation will be held today (Friday, Sept. 23, 2011) from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Benevolent Funeral Home.

Bennie Moody was born Feb. 9, 1939 in Homer to the late Earnie and Bertha Moody. He was the fourth of 10 children.

Bennie accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Claiborne Parish.

Bennie had four children from a previous marriage, Vicky, Gay, Kenneth and Carolyn (deceased). Bennie married Gloridean Taylor on March 13, 1982 and reared Thaddeus Cordell Taylor, Sr.

Bennie attended school in Claiborne Parish. He had a passion for driving trucks. For may years, he drove for CW&W, Jim Penton and Blazer Construction. He also drove for his cousin, Calvin Gilbert. In fact, he thought no one else could drive as well as he, so he taught other friends and relatives how to drive.

Bennie departed this life on Sept. 14, 2011 at Minden Medical Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnie and Bertha Moody; daughter, Carolyn Moody; and brother, Napolean Moody.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gloridean Taylor Moody of Minden; three children, Vicky Moody (Michael), Kenneth Moody (Linda) both of Minden and Gay Collins (Michael) of Baytown, Texas; one step-son, Thaddeus Cordell Taylor, Sr. of Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Ernestine Moody of Minden and Virginia Timmons (Donald) of Bossier City; five brothers, James Moody (Josephine) of Los Angeles, California, Andrew Moody (Gloria), Dock Moody (Vera), Sedric Moody (Linda and Britt Moody (Annette) all of Minden; eight grandchildren, La Tasha Johnson Dent (James) of Tampa, Florida, Vickisa Crew Jones (Michale) of Keller, Texas, Kenneth Davis of Arcadia, Kendrick Moody, Jasmine Crew and Cordell Taylor, Jr. all of Minden, Corda' Veon Taylor of Baton Rouge and Lorena Taylor of Tyler, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Kennedy Dent, Jaden Dent and Lydon Dent all of Tampa, Florida, Mackenzee Jones and Mason Jones of Keller, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
