‘Krewes in the Kitchen’is outstanding

Sunday, August 14, I attended the Cookbook Debut and Tasting for the Cookbook titled "Krewes in the Kitchen."  It was hosted by the Krewe des Ambassadeurs in the "Orleans on Main" Building.  I enjoyed tasting various prepared samples of recipes found in the cookbook, each outstanding.

A friend and neighbor in our Patio Colony, Sue Gruber, had baked Stephanie Holobeck's recipe for Pecan Pie Muffins (pg. 36).  Since Mac's favorite dessert is Pecan Pie, I knew immediately when I tasted a mini muffin that Mac would like them.  That sweet, thoughtful Sue provided me with a few of the muffins to take home to Mac.  He enjoyed them with a cup of coffee and was extremely pleased with the flavor.

Sue told me that Stephanie often bakes them for her family's Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday dinners in place of Pecan Pie.  Next time I am at a kitchen store, I am going to buy a couple of the miniature muffin pans.  Then I can prepare these muffins for Mac or as perfect homemade gifts for others.  So far, I have cooked only one thing from the book and that was the Creole Cabbage, (page 80) and it was a great success.  I am looking forward to trying more of the recipes.

Beside the book I purchased for myself, I bought one as a gift for my son, Dwight, who likes to cook and my 15 year old great, great nephew, Tanner Maxfield, who plans to attend a culinary school and become a chef.  It is a beautiful book with a variety of uncomplicated recipes.  It even includes a section of recipes for dogs and cats; an unusual addition that I have never seen in any other cookbook.

The books are presently on sale at "The Butterfly Garden," "TG Nursery," "South Beach Tanning," and "Loye's Pharmacy."  I highly recommend this cookbook.

2 eggs, beaten
Two-thirds cup butter or margarine,
1 cup packed brown sugar
One-half cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans

Combine the eggs, butter, and brown sugar in a bowl and mix well.  Add the flour and pecans and mix well.  Spoon into greased miniature muffin cups, filling two-thirds full.  Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
