BESE proposal offers Common Core alternative

BATON ROUGE — Leaders of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) have reached out to Gov. Bobby Jindal with a proposal they hope will resolve differences between the administration and the board over Common Core tests.

But language in the proposal questions the governor's authority to terminate the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests which are central to the controversial Common Core curriculum. Jindal has urged that Louisiana drop Common Core.
