Dixie Boys 14-year olds playing well at State Tourney

BOSSIER CITY — The Minden Dixie Boys 14-year old All-Star team is enjoying their early action in the State Tournament at Tinsley Park in Bossier City.

The Minden boys are 3-1 heading into today's game and won their third game in walk-off fashion.

Against Concordia on Sunday, Spencer White drove in the winning run with a fielder's choice giving Minden a 6-5 win.

Minden trailed the entire game before scoring twice in the sixth. Concordia led 2-1 after the first inning, and 4-2 after two. Concordia improved its lead to 5-2 with a single run in the top of the fifth inning, but Minden scored twice in the bottom half, cutting the lead to 5-2.

Walker Williams doubled and White and Sutton Jones both singled in the game.

White, Logan Clark and Clayton Festervan all pitched for Minden, with Festervan picking up the win.

In their first game in the tournament, Minden beat Franklin 13-3.

Minden scored eight runs in the bottom of the first and four in the second. They then plated another run in the third before shutting out Franklin in the top of the fourth to close out the 10-run win.

Spencer White and Walker Williams both had two singles to lead the offense, and Logan Clark, Clayton Festervan, Luke Griffith and Thomas Lambert all added base hits.

Aubrey Williams pitched the first two innings and took the win. He allowed two hits, one run and struck out two. Walker Williams closed out the final inning with four strike outs. Because of an error on the first strikeout, which allowed the runner to reach first base, Williams was able to complete the rare four-strikeout inning.

In their second game, Minden rolled past Sulpher, 13-1.

Minden's first five batters in the first inning reached and scored, and the team never looked back, scoring three runs in the second and the final five in the fourth.

Logan Clark led the way with a pair of singles, a walk and reached on an error and Clayton Festervan singled and doubled. Spencer White, Walker Williams, Thomas Lambert and Sutton Jones all added base hits.

White started on the mound and got the win as he went the first two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. White struck out the side in order in the second inning. Festervan pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.

Monday night the Minden boys fell to Gonzalez 12-2, but are still alive as they played at 9 a.m. this morning.
