Police suspect speed, alcohol to be factors
Two Minden women remain at LSU Medical Center after the vehicle in which they were traveling crashed on U.S. Hwy. 80 Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, Kristi R. Cole, 31, is in critical condition, while 39-year-old Kristi Young, the driver, has been upgraded to fair and stable.
Trooper Cordell Williams, Public Information Officer for Troop G, said the women were westbound on Hwy. 80 west of Dixie Inn and east of Goodwill Road around 3 p.m.
"Witnesses said they were traveling at a high rate of speed," Williams said. "For unknown reasons, they veered off the right side of the roadway, hit a concrete culvert and became airborne."
Williams said the vehicle "vaulted" end over end a number of times, landed and then rolled over several times.
"It came to rest on the roof trapping the driver and passenger (Cole) inside the vehicle," he said. "They were extricated by emergency medical personnel and Minden Fire and Rescue."
Williams said the women were airlifted to LSU Medical Center with critical injuries.
"Both were wearing their seat belts," he said. "However, we are expecting speed and alcohol to be factors in this crash."
The crash remains under investigation and toxicology reports are pending.
"Charges, as well, are pending," Williams said.
