Hollywood teams scouting Webster

Webster Parish may get an economic boost by the end of the year as several locations are being scouted for upcoming movie productions.

The specifics have not been released, but according to local movie scouts and personnel, production companies are interested in filming here.

"Louisiana is still one of the top places to shoot a movie," said Arlena Acree with the Shreveport Film Office, as she spoke to a group of roughly 40 people Friday at noon.

Acree shared some statistics with the lunch group about the economic impact the film industry has on Louisiana. According to Acree, in 2010 Louisiana gained 7,990 jobs and $674.1 million from this industry.

So far, for 2011, seven movies/productions have been filmed in North Louisiana or are in production. This has netted $20.292 million for the area and sold 2,661 hotel rooms. Hotel room occupancy is a major factor in calculating tourism to an area.

"Productions have been down this year, but hurricane season should help with that," Acree said. "Hurricane season can affect the number of movies filmed in the New Orleans area and send them up to north Louisiana."

As movie productions make a commitment to the area, more information will be published in the Minden Press-Herald.
