Douglas Paul Phillips, 28, was arrested by deputies and charged with possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff Gary Sexton said that when Phillips made a U-turn to avoid the Allen Drive checkpoint, LDWF agent Kenny Balkom stopped the vehicle and contacted deputies Bobby Igo, III and Joel Thomas for assistance.
“Balkom told the deputies he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” Sexton said. “The deputies also smelled it. They advised Phillips of his Miranda rights and asked if he had any illegal narcotics in the vehicle.”
Phillips reportedly admitted to having a blunt of marijuana in the ashtray. While being questioned, Phillips also admitted to have more marijuana at his residence.
“Phillips signed a waiver allowing deputies to search his residence,” Sexton said. “At his residence on Dorcheat Road, investigating officers located a trash bag in the closet containing a jar of suspected marijuana and a plastic container with seven small labeled baggies of suspected marijuana.”
