Officials: Pageant not in jeopardy

Young Women's Service Club representatives want the public to know there will be a Miss Minden crowned in 2013.

"We have seven confirmed contestants for our Teen Division and six confirmed contestants for the Miss Minden Division," said YWSC president Rebecca Bower. "Never has the production of the pageant been in question."

Bower said the pageant is lacking in contestants for the Little Miss Pageant, which spans ages infants to 14 years.

"We only have three contestants so far in that pageant," Bower said. "We are lacking in the confirmed contestants for the Little Miss Pageant – as is the custom every year."

Bower went on to say contestants often sign up for Little Miss pageant at the last minute, and they are hopeful it will still take place, as entry fees help fund future pageants.

"Miss Minden 2013 will be occurring this upcoming year just as it has since 1953," she continued. "This scholoarship fund is able now and will be able to fund the $4,450 in scholarship monies to the top three (Miss Minden) contestants. This amount does not include the cash awards and wardrobe expenses we are also prepared to pay."

All pageants are scheduled to take place January 12.
