Lakeview UMC seeking donations for Missouri city
Supplies and donations are requested for those in need after a devastating tornado took everything from them.
Lakeview United Methodist Church is accepting donations for the community of Joplin, Missouri that was destroyed by a tornado last Sunday. The last count of fatalities showed 125 lives were lost in that storm.
"This is a mission for the glory of God," said a Lakeview UMC personnel member who wished to remain anonymous. "We need supplies and donations. We have enough volunteers at the moment. The space we will be housed at is small, so a small group is best."
Supplies needed include personal hygiene products, new socks, blankets, pillows diapers and emergency rain gear.
Lakeview UMC asks that people do not donate used clothes because there is not enough manpower to sort through them.
"Picture everything you have in your home, and then picture it gone," the personnel member said. "That's what these people need; the things you need to survive."
The volunteers will leave Friday at noon and will arrive back in Minden Monday morning.
Donations can be dropped off at Lakeview UMC until noon each day, but if you cannot make it before noon the donations may be left outside the church. The personnel members will make sure they get to the proper place.
"I see this being an ongoing mission," the anonymous member said. "We will bring the supplies with us or send them up to Joplin. If we can't get the donations to them, we'll donate them to UCAP. These donations will be used for good."
