An aggravated incest conviction has resulted in 50 years at hard labor, 25 without benefit of probation, parole or suspension, for Joshua Sinclair Vallo, 23, of Springhill.
Judge Parker Self, 26th District Court, handed down the sentence to Vallo on Friday, August 17 after a pre-sentencing investigation.
Vallo was indicted July 19, 2010 on charges of aggravated rape and aggravated incest, and reportedly entered a not-guilty plea August 10 of the same year.
A jury convicted Vallo of the aggravated incest charge on April 25 of this year for crimes against his stepdaughter who was eight at the time of his arrest.
Bossier-Webster District Attorney Schuyler Marvin said he is proud of the way his office handled the case.
"I am also proud of the Cullen Police Department's investigation into the crime against this child and grateful for the jury's service and diligent deliberation," Marvin said.
Jack Montgomery, prosecuting assistant district attorney, said, "children are our most precious resource, and I'm glad we were able to get a guilty verdict."
Marvin said he also appreciated the work of Montgomery in successfully prosecuting the case and he is satisfied Vallo is locked away for a long time and will be unable to victimize another child.
Because Vallo received a 50-year sentence, according to a DA spokesperson the aggravated rape charge will not be prosecuted to avoid subjecting the victim to another trial.
