Hit-and-run driver arrested

Charnequa Benton, 23, of the 900 block of Fulton Street has been arrested by Minden Police and charged with hit-and-run and aggravated criminal damage to property.

According to Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper, on Saturday, April 23, officer Chris McClaran was dispatched to Woods Street to talk with a victim whose vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run.

“There was apparently a conflict between the victim and Benton,” Cropper said. “She (Benton) was driving by where his car was parked, making verbal comments and hand gestures. She turned around in the middle of the street, gassed her car and rammed into the back of his vehicle causing damage to the rear right bumper and knocking out some of the taillights on his vehicle.”

On Sunday, April 24, McClaran was dispatched to Durwood Street and observed the vehicle described in the hit-and-run.

“Off. McClaran made contact with Benton, and she was arrested,” Cropper said. “We also had an outstanding bench warrant on her for disturbing the peace.”
