Bienville Parish burglar busted

Minden Police have picked up a man on charges that may solve a string of burglaries in Bienville Parish.

Charles Lawson, Jr., 30, of the 200 block of Cemetery Road in Castor, was arrested and charged with five counts of illegal possession of stolen things.

Police Chief Steve Cropper said Det. Heath Balkom worked off reports received from Det. Rusty Poland of the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“The Bienville detective called in reference to five stolen guns that were possibly at a Minden pawn shop,”  Cropper said. “Det. Balkom made contact with the shop and recovered five guns and a stolen TV that had been pawned by Lawson.”

Lawson was charged after Minden Police obtained warrants from Bienville Parish Sheriff John Ballance.

“We are looking at him (Lawson) on three burglaries,” Ballance said. “We have pending charges  on at least five counts of stolen property and one burglary.”

Ballance said there were some stolen items recovered in Bossier Parish.

“So, we’re still sorting through all of it to see what we’re going to charge him with,” he said.

The sheriff said the property owners have seen and identified the items that have been recovered.

Lawson was booked and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. He reportedly has a hold placed on him by Probation and Parole.
