Prior convictions help officers
Shopping but not paying may have been the mode of operation for one local woman until Minden Police changed her habits.
Tranette Lewis, 47, of the 200 block of Peach Alley, has been arrested and charged with felony theft.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said just after Christmas his office received a call from a local department store in reference to a person stealing merchandise. But when officers arrived, the suspect had already left the store.
"Lt. Dan Weaver viewed the store's video surveillance system and was familiar with the suspect," Cropper said. "He recognized her from previous arrests."
The chief said thanks to prior theft convictions, officers were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Lewis.
"On January 16, Lt. Weaver, Det. Chris Cheatham and Ofc. Kenneth James located Lewis on Peach Alley," Cropper said.
Lewis was arrested for felony theft, booked at the Minden Police Department and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center where she was placed under a $30,000 bond.
