A crowd of more than 100 attended a brunch sponsored by Minden's Krewe des Ambassadeurs to usher in the holiday and Mardi Gras seasons.
The brunch was held at the Minden Civic Center and featured Minden Mayor Bill Robertson giving keys to the city to the local Mardi Gras King Shelby Duay and Queen Kathy Camp.
The brunch featured Diamond Jacks Chef Gunter Miliam who prepared his popular apple strudel. Lisa Ellen's Cakes and Catering prepared the feast, which featured Franzosisch toast (french toast), Goren (brats), Geback (biscuits) and Ei Schmortopf (egg casserole).
Minden City Clerk and German descendant Michael Fleur read a proclamation from the city in the tongue of his homeland declaring the beginning of Fasching aka Mardi Gras at 11:11 a.m. on the date of the brunch November 11 (11/11).
Habacu's Mexican Restaurant sponsored the brunch with a special donation from Mike Nerren, candidate for district judge.
Royalty from the Krewe of Artemis and Krewe of Akewa were also on hand and were presented with Fasching medallions.
The Minden Mardi Gras parade will be January 26.
