There is life after Mondays

Some people dread Mondays, but those in need of blood will learn there is life, thanks to Mondays, during the month of November when LifeShare Blood Centers will be taking donations.

Mondays, November 19 and 26, LifeShare's bus will be parked at Walmart on Homer Road from 1:30 until 5 p.m.

"November is always a difficult month for us," said LifeShare representative Mary Jo Henderson. "It's the beginning of the holiday season, and people's minds aren't on donating blood. But the need is still there – sometimes it's even greater during the holiday season."

Recent changes in criteria may make it easier for LifeShare to collect more units and save more lives.

Cancer survivors must wait only one year to donate instead of the previous five.

Henderson hopes for more units now that 16-year-olds are eligible to donate.

"A parent must be with them to sign a consent form," Henderson said.

In fact, all of the area is a giving community when it comes to donating blood, she said.

"Minden often beats Shreveport and Bossier," Henderson said. "But, this is not about competing because there are no losers when it comes to donating blood."
