Team headed to Mobile on March 1
The Minden Blabalots, members of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), recently won the 2.5 Louisiana State Tennis Championship and will now move on to compete at the USTA Sectional Tournament in Mobile, Alabama on March 1 through 3.
Team Captain Amanda Gulley and other Blabalots include: Dee Milam, April Walker, Jill Chanler, Stacy Edwards, Kelly Paul, JoAnna Marks, Lisa Davis and Patti Walker.
Team members are coached by Hau Nguyen. Play will begin on March 1 against the Alabama 2.5 champs. The remaining schedule has the Blabalots pitted against Arkansas that afternoon, Tennessee on Saturday, and Mississippi on Sunday.
Beginning on May 21, 1881, a small group of tennis club members met at the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York City to form the world's first national governing body for tennis: the United States National Lawn Tennis Association. The new organization was created to standardize tennis rules and regulations and to encourage and develop the sport. In 1920, "national" was dropped from the name, and in 1975, the name was further shortened to the current United States Tennis Association (USTA). Today the number of USTA members exceeds 670,000.
