FLORIEN—The Shongaloo Tigers fell to the Florien Blackcats, 7-6, in the regional round of the LHSAA Class B playoffs on Tuesday.
The Tigers beat Holden, 13-3, in the first round.
Shongaloo took an early lead with Ja’Vonte Thomas singling to start the game followed by McCaul Lacobee doubling to score the run.
Florien tied the game in the bottom of the inning, as they loaded the bases and Dexton Bryant hit into a fielder’s choice to score one, then Keaton Booker singling to score another to lead 2-1.
Shongaloo came back to tie the game in the top of the second with Tyler Zachry singling then advancing on an error and scoring on another Florien miscue. Florien regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 3-2, with Trent Partridge singling then scoring on Shain Erwin double to right center.
The Tigers came back in the top of the sixth with Dylan Modisette’s one-out single followed by a walk then three hit batters to score one, and then Thomas got his second hit scoring two more runs putting Shongaloo up 5-3.
Florien sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs.
Nick Roath had a one-out double and scored on James Sapp’s single but Shongaloo could score no more, with the tying run stranded on second. “I’m proud of the way our team battled but we gave Florien just too many opportunities said Shongaloo coach Paul Lacobee.
