Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Baker Souter, 95, were held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, with Rev. Ronald Morgan officiating and the graveside eulogy by Evangelist Phillip Baker. Interment followed in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill.
Visitation was Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Souter was born Nov. 11, 1917 in Haynesville to Virgil and Etta Hardaway Crow and passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 in Springhill. She was a former resident of Taylor, Arkansas and a resident of Springhill for many years. Mrs. Souter was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by son, John Howard Baker of Ruston; grandsons, Evangelist Phillip Baker and wife, Laura and Eric Baker and wife, Leah; stepgrandson, Dr. Wayne McMahen and wife, Beverly; great-grandchildren, Erica Baker, Keegan Baker, Madison Baker and McKinley Baker; great-stepgrandchildren, Stuart McMahen, Megan Colvin and husband, Matt and Marci McMahen; great-great-stepgranddaughter, Landry Kate Colvin; many special nieces and nephews, including Richard Baker and wife, Rosemary of Sarepta, Harry McLeod and wife of Houston, Dianne McLeod of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Susan Law of Conroe, Texas; and a loving sister-in-law, Madge Holloway of Springhill.
Mrs. Souter was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Howard Baker, Sr. and Nesbit Souter; one brother; and four sisters.
Honoring her as pallbearers were Phillip Allison, James Burns, Lynn Lee, Gerald White, Crawford Williams and Jimmy Thompson.
