On Monday, Jan. 23, 2013, our God Almighty sent a host of heavenly angels to accompany His child home.
Verna Sears Green was born March 4, 1932 to the late Edgar Sears and Francis Hollinquest Sears. She departed this life on Jan. 23, 2013. She was born in Bienville Parish near Arcadia where she attended Holland Grove Elementary School.
The family moved near Taylor. She married Otis Bell, Sr.; to this union one son was born, Otis Bell, Jr. She moved to Minden, and married Clifford Green. Both husbands proceeded her in death.
Verna became a member of Mt. Calm Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. She was a person who loved to help people. Sister Green had a magnetic smile, a listening ear and a big heart for everyone she met. She was the world's greatest mom, sister and granny to everyone she met. The grandchildren, Yolonda, Rico, Carlo and O'Tisha and the great-grandchildren, Cha'Kiyah, Zy'Rinique, Ty'Keuna and Imani were the love of her life. Verna, who we called Gramps, was that to everyone that met her.
Verna was proceeded in death by her mother and father; brothers, James Edwards Sears, Willie Whitfield and Billy Ray Whitfield; and two sisters, Carrie Jean Sears and Josedine Lanell Sears.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Otis Bell, Jr. (Inez); two granddaughters, Yolonda Bell Green (Calvin) and O'Tisha Bell; two grandsons, Rodrico Bell (Conquista) and DeCarlo Bell (Ty Wanna); four great-grandchildren, Cha'Kiyah Green, Zy'Rinique Bell, Ty'Keuna Green and Imani Joseph; five sisters, Lula Mae Whitfield of Los Angeles, California, Josephine Whitfield of Los Angeles, California, Ola Thompson (Charles) of Detroit, Michigan, Electa Jones of Bastrop and Reverend Esther Dean of Columbus, Georgia; seven brothers, David Sears of Ruston, Daniel Sears (Marie) of Humble, Texas, Thomas Aubrey (Clara) of Beaumont, Texas, L.J. Aubrey of Houston, Texas, Samuel Sears of Monroe, David Earl Whitfield, of Los Angeles, California and Eddie Whitfield (Carrie) of Cochren, California; a special friend, Gladys Drew of Minden; god child, Patricia Ware of Minden; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday Feb. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calm Baptist Church, Minden.
Interment will be in Sheppard Street Cemetary.
Visitation is today (Friday) from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the chapel of Benevolent Funeral Home.
