Lady Apaches named to All-District teams

Recently, eight members of the Glenbrook Lady Apaches MAIS District 7A Champion softball team were named 7A All-District.

In addition, head coach Jonathan Hardy was named District Coach of the Year.

Five players were named to the first team, two to the second team and one was named honorable mention.

"I was real proud of the girls, they had a great season," Hardy said. "They all deserved the recognition."

First Team Members

Gracyn Gorman — Gorman hit .447 to lead the Lady Apaches and played third base and center field.

Melody Hanson —Hanson finished second on the team with a .436 average, while playing shortstop, third base and right field.

Leanna Cooper — Played a solid second base and was third on the team with a .421 average.

Carsin Spurlock — The Lady Apache first baseman hit .371 and played great defense.

Lucille Dayton — The leading pitcher for Glenbrook finished with 10 wins, two saves and an era of 2.00.

Second Team Members

Jessica Mangrum — Hit .321 on the year and totaled nine wins as a pitcher.

Shelby Nicholas — The Lady Apaches catcher shut down their opponents running games, while hitting .285.

Honorable Mention

Sunni Wilson — Wilson missed most of the season with injury, but hit .455 with two home runs and 20 RBI to impress the district coaches in her limited time.

"The girls really played well," Hardy said. "Gracyn was real solid of defense for us and Melody was a real clutch hitter in the middle of our lineup. Leanna and Carsin both played good defense and got better and better as the season went on. And Lucille had a lot of big wins for us. Jessica was a real clutch hitter and pitched well as a starter and in relief, and Shelby had a lot of clutch hits. And Sunni played well before she got hurt and then came back to help us at the end of the year. I'm real proud of them all."
