Lady Tiders fall to Benton, 61-44

The Minden Lady Tiders dropped their first district game, 61-44, to the Benton Lady Tigers Tuesday night.

Benton built an early lead and the Lady Tiders, despite playing well in the second half, couldn't recover.

"Early on, I thought we played decent," Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. "Not great by any means, but we were only down 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. But Benton out-scored us 16-3 in the second quarter to take a 30-13 halftime lead."

The Lady Tiders made a comeback in the second half, cutting the lead to single digits, but Benton finally pulled away.

"I really don't think we played very good defense and we didn't rebound very well either," Brown said. "Offensively, we stood around too much and settled for perimeter jump shots, which is not good for us. We need to attack the goal."

Antavia Sterling led the Lady Tiders with 15 points and Carmella Specks added eight. Shabrie Nelson had eight points and four rebounds and JaCourtney Neloms added six.

"We have some things we need to fix," Brown said. "Because the teams in our district will take advantage of us like Benton did. It just wasn't our best effort. You have to win district games at home, and we need to play consistent every night."
