Brother Bill Ichter (center right) leads prayer at the foot of Josh Madden's memorial at the Madden home on Gladney Street. Last week, his parents, Cindy (left) and Jerry (right) received new flags donated by George Fithen (center left), who noticed wear on the flags flown at the memorial.

Fithen said it was an honor to donate flags to preserve the memory of Josh and other veterans. Sgt. Josh Madden lost his life on December 6, 2006 as the result of a massive explosion in Hawija, Iraq. Josh's parents said he died doing what he loved, serving the United States and defending his country, his home, and his family. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division Wolfhounds. At 21 years old, Josh left behind his wife, Dani, and three-month-old son, Jaxon.
