Don Stahl Tournament underway

SIBLEY — The 19th Annual Don Stahl memorial Tournament at Lakeside High School started with a bang as seven games were played.

Today, the tournament continues with six more games.

The Lakeside teams didn't fare well in thier games, as the Warriors lost to Doyline, 82-67, and the Lady Warrior lost to Northwood, 36-33.

Doyline 82, Warriors 67

The Panthers started quickly and never looked back as they beat the Warriors Wednesday night.

"It was the same old story for us," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "We brought our own demons. We lose the turnover battle every night and it really hurt us big time."

Doyline jumped out in front of Lakeside 21-11 in the first quarter and then out-scored the Warriors 22-16 in the second quarter to take a 43-27 halftime lead.

Doyline then took the third quarter, 20-16, before Lakeside came back to take the fourth, 25-17, to make the final, 82-67.

"Doyline played very well and shot the ball very well," Gould said. "So I give them a lot of credit for how we played. But we're consistently inconsistent in the way we play and handle the ball. So it's just the same story. We're trying to grow up, trying to get better each day."

Lance Taylor led Lakeside with 22 points and Davian Whiting dropped in 15. Deondre Shehee and Frankie Miles both scored nine points and Darryl Moore had eight. Jamarion Teal added four points.

Trey Jackson led Doyline with 23 points and Donnie Brooks had 13. Quatarus Solomon scored 12 points and Jaylon Jackson and Justice Lindsey both had 11.

Northwood 36, Lakeside Lady Warriors 33

The Lady Warriors, who trailed Northwood 30-22 going into the fourth quarter, out-scored the Lady Falcons 11-6 in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to three points. But that was as close as they would come, losing 36-33.

Shanae Collins led the Lady Warriors with 13 points and Tamera Douglas scored 11.

Minden Lady Tiders 55, North Webster 34

The Minden Lady Tiders turned a close game into a 21-point win with a strong second half, beating North Webster 58-34.

"Overall, I was pleased with the girls," Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. "I was proud of the way we played, especially in the second half."

The two teams were tied 10-10 after the first quarter, and Minden then took a 24-22 halftime lead. The Lady Tiders then out-scored North Webster 34-12 in the second half.

"I thought we came out a little slow in the first quarter," Brown said. "We weren't real patient with getting a good shot and they sat back in a 2-3 zone and dared us to shoot."

The second quarter was more of the same.

"We'd get the lead up to five or six points, then we'd have a defensive mishap and they would get back down to three or four," Brown said. "But through all that, we kept playing hard, which was a good thing. But I really challenged them at halftime to extend their lead, and the girls came out and did a good job of doing that. It all started on the defensive end, which is what we preach all the time."

Carmella Specks led the Lady Tiders with 14 points and JaCourtney Neloms added 12. Antavia Sterling added 11 points and six rebounds and Metosha Gill had seven points and five rebounds. Tijah Pugh had seven points and eight rebounds and Tyia Green added four points and three rebounds.

Doyline Lady Panthers 59, Calvary 50

The Doyline Lady Panthers used a big third quarter to power past Calvary Baptist, 59-50.

The Lady Panthers out-scored Calvary 19-9 in the quarter to turn a 34-31 halftime lead into a 53-40 lead going into the fourth.

Chantrell Johnson led Doyline with 27 points and Amber Ary added 10.
