Lady Tiders back to winning ways

After back to back losses, the Minden High Lady Tiders rebounded with a rivalry win against Lakeside Thursday night in Sibley.

"We played pretty decent basketball tonight," Minden coach Jacob Brown said of his team's 55-48 victory. "We responded well to being down early and did a good job against their zone defense."

Trailing early, Brown said his girls kept their composure and rallied to outscore Lakeside in the second quarter to take a halftime lead.

"We got out well in transition," he said. "We did some things that I have been preaching for a long time, like being aggressive going to the basket, working together and getting open looks for our teammates."

As it was a rivalry game, Lakeside didn't go down without a fight. The Lady Warriors went on a third quarter run, cutting a Minden lead to only two points, 32-30, going into the last quarter.

"Lakeside went man to man and we adjusted pretty well," Brown said. "In the fourth, we hit some big free throws down the stretch in the last minute and a half."

The win improved Minden's record to 10-6 on the season.

"This was a very important win for us after losing the last two," Brown said. "I'm proud of the girls. And now we get a little break. We will practice during the break and work on getting better, building on this win."

Carmella Specks was the leading scorer with 15 points including hitting some clutch shots and free throws at the end of the game. Antavia Sterling added 14 points and six rebounds.

Minden High will next play on December 28 against Homer.
