Services for Mr. Alvin Ferrell McBroom, 70, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be Dr. Jim Crain and Rev. Jeff Flenniken. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden. The family received friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Mr. McBroom was born in Strong, Arkansas. He was a 1960 graduate of Doyline High School. He attended college at Southeastern in Hammond, LA, where he majored in Vocal Music. He also served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Mr. McBroom retired from the City of Minden Steam Plant in 2001 after 15 years of service as a steam plant operator. He was a devoted member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Minden where he was President of the Men's Brotherhood. He was also President of Calvary's former Senior Group "Young At Heart". His passion was spending time with his family and singing gospel music.
He served as a choir member for over 15 years in the Louisiana Missionary Baptist Institute and Seminary supporting the school's mission. He loved his church family passionately. He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy Elmer McBroom and Willie Mae Lockwood McBroom Hattaway. He is survived by his wife, Reita McBroom; daughter, Jennifer McBroom-Guin; sister, Faye McBroom Tharpe Pilcher; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Lee, Tommy Frye, Morris Busby, Shane Frye, Jimmy Smith, Sr., and Dan Saxon.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Minden Medical Center, Willis Knighton Medical Center-Greenwood, Lifecare Hospital, and Christus Schumpert Grace Home for making his last years the fullest they could be. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or LMBIS.
