Agents arrest bail bondsman for swapping bonds for meth

Jason TerryA Shongaloo man is in jail for using his bail bonds business to acquire narcotics.

Jason A. Terry, 40, of the 2500 block of Hwy. 159, is charged with extortion and possession of CDS Sch. II methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

He was also arrested on warrants for no tail lamps and no vehicle license.

According to reports, a complaint was filed with the Webster Parish Sheriff's Narcotics Division after Terry allegedly told a subject, for whom he had posted bond, that he would have the bond revoked if that subject did not deliver to him a certain amount of methamphetamine.

Capt. Robert Hayden, narcotics detectives Bobby Igo, III and Wade Wells, as well as Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd reportedly monitored a telephone conversation where the complainant agreed to meet Terry at a designated time and place to deliver a certain amount of methamphetamine.

The deal would reportedly mean the complainant's bond would be paid in full.

Reporting officers then packaged and marked seized methamphetamine and used it in the transaction, using audio and video electronic equipment.

Watching from a location nearby, officers reported that when the transaction took place, they arrested Terry and recovered the methamphetamine in his front left pocket.

He was booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
