'Pack the Bus' helps kids go back to school

A large school bus parked on the sidewalk in front of Walmart was ready and waiting to be loaded with school supplies Saturday. With only one more hour to go in the Pack the Bus project, volunteers had collected colorful boxes of crayons, packages of lined paper, piles of pencils, stacks of kindergarten mats and more than $1,700 to spend toward supplies to pack that bus.

"We will be able to help 900 school children," Glenda Allums, a volunteer representing co-sponsor ConocoPhillips said. "The people of Minden are good at giving back."
