Minden is choc full of historic things: Beautiful Italianate and 1920’s brick and steel construction downtown; a boulevard full of beautiful, iconic mansions; our court house; and the civic center is even approaching historic but surely stating a classic 1970’s modern civic look. All of these things are assets to us in our community as aesthetically pleasing reminders of our history. There are other historic relics we have in our community that keep us from growing.
Developers like to know what a city wants and what the rules are. It is not attractive to outside investors to have to seek a variance each time they want to do something a little different. We need to scrap the current zoning plan and totally re-plan Minden to be conducive to modern development while accentuating our lovely charm and character that draws us all here. It’s time to share Minden! But first we must decide where we are going by planning and rezoning our city and writing modern standards, which will attract new businesses and housing development.
