SPRINGHILL — The Doyline Panthers split a pair of games Saturday in the North Webster Tournament in Springhill.
The Panthers lost to Haynesville, 13-9, Saturday morning, and came back to beat Huntington, 17-2, in the afternoon back in Doyline.
In the first game, the score went back and forth between Doyline and Haynesville.
"We just couldn't shut the door and they put the bat on the ball more than us," Doyline coach John Austin said.
Despite pitching well in his first outing, Gage Brunson took the loss on the mound.
James Gaynor led the team with three singles. Micheal Augustine had two hits, and Brunson and Peyton Goerner each had a double. Cole Lillig tripled, and Luke Watson, Kevin Bolen, Garrett Smith and Robert Stephens all added a single each.
Against Huntington, Luke Watson got his first win of the year, pitching all three innings.
Goerner led the team with three hits, and Augustine had a double and a single. Garrett Smith had two hits, Brunson doubled, and Lillig, James Gaynor,
Zach Jordan, Robert Stephens, and Austin Culverhouse all had singles.
The Panthers will play Haynesville at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
