Minden splits two with Fair Park

2-11 sportsSHREVEPORT — Minden High split a pair of district games with Fair Park, Friday in Shreveport.

The Tide beat the Indians, 63-53, while the Lady Tiders fell, 62-49.

"It was a hard-fought game all the way," Crimson Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "We had a hard time putting them away. It was close all the way."
Fair Park closed the lead to one point in the fourth quarter, but the Tide was able to pull away at the end.

"Our defense stepped up for us in the fourth quarter," he said. "We got some long rebounds and made some stops, and then we were able to hit our free throws at the end of the game to pull it out."

C.J. Elkins led the Tide with 17 points and Anfernee Red scored 12. Reggie Seamster added 10 points.

With a win tonight against Northwood, the Tide will own sole possession of second place in District 1-4A. A loss would lead to a one-game playoff with Woodlawn.

The Lady Tiders trailed most of the way in their loss to the Lady Indians.

Fair Park led 11-9 in the first, 31-14 at the half, and 48-23 after the third before taking the 62-49 win.

"We played pretty well early," Lady Tiders head coach Jacob Brown said. "We got into foul trouble in the second quarter and that hurt us. We had to sit three players, and that was really the difference in the ball game."

The Lady Tiders went on an 8-2 run in the third quarter to cut the lead to 11.

"With about 3 1/2 minutes to go, Fair Park began to hold the ball, so we had to foul to extend the game."

The Lady Tiders cut the lead down to eight, but that was as close as they could come."

"It was a tough game to lose," Brown said. "But we had several opportunities to keep it close early in the ball game.

Antavia Sterling led the Lady Tiders with 16 points.

Tonight, the Tide and Lady Tiders will host Northwood in their annual Senior Night at 6 p.m.
