The Gold Star Mothers of Louisiana honored District 36 State Senator Robert Adley (R-Benton) for his efforts in helping Louisiana National Guard members and their family members.
Judy Barnett with the Gold Star Mothers presented Adley with a "Lest We Forget" sculpture by Timothy Schmalz, thanking him for being a champion of the Gold Star families and for his continued dedication to helping pass legislation that aids the survivors of Louisiana National Guard members killed in the line of duty.
"I am tremendously honored to receive this recognition from the Gold Star Mothers," Adley said. "It is so important that we continue to take care of the men and women that fight for our freedom and their families."
Adley's Senate Bill 1 was vetoed by the Governor; however, identical legislation has been signed.
The measure makes retroactive a law passed by the legislature in 2007, giving a $250,000 death benefit to survivors of each member of the Louisiana National Guard killed in the line of duty in the war on terrorism from 2001 forward.
Adley said the measure will affect 32 families.
