Ronald Eugene Gray

Ron GrayRonald Eugene Gray passed away Jan. 10, 2013 in Lewisville, Texas after a long illness. His ashes will be interred in his hometown of Springhill on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at 4 p.m. in Springhill Cemetery at a graveside service. He will be buried next to his parents' graves, Clyde and Frances Gray.

Ron was born in Bastrop in 1939, however, he was raised in Springhill. In school, Ron excelled at music, public speaking and radio broadcasting, working at the local Springhill radio station. He graduated from Springhill High School in the late 1950's and went on to attend Louisiana Tech University where he met his first wife, Melba Dean Tubbs. They soon married, moved to Springhill and had two children, Gary and Joby.

Around 1965, the family moved to Shreveport where Ron worked in radio broadcasting, played in a local band, "Ron Gray and The Countdowns," and he also was a concert promoter for big names like Johnny Cash, "The Monkees," Jimmy Hendrix and more. He also recorded several singles including "No More," "Hold Back The Sun Rise" and "AJax The Tin Knight." Some of these old songs can be found on YouTube. In 1968, Ron and Dean divorced and he moved to Dallas to work in the radio business there.

In Dallas, Ron met his second wife, Patricia Diane Davis, and they married in the early 1970's. They had three children, Spencer, John and Daniel. He continued working in the radio business but gave it up in the late 1980's to become a sales manager for a pharmaceutical company in Texarkana, Texas. Eventually, he found his way back to the radio business working as a news anchor for one of the national radio networks, and he moved back to the Dallas area to work in radio again. His first love was the radio business and he was really good at it, receiving accolades from his colleagues.

Ron and Diane divorced in 2006 and he never remarried.

He is survived by his five children; his sister, Linda Kay Shamblin (formerly Boucher); and three grandchildren, Kaleb, Connor and Charly.
