Crime Stoppers leads to vehicle burglar

Phillips_AshleighSHREVEPORT – A suspected thief is off streets today following her arrest for an alleged vehicle burglary that occurred in south Shreveport.

According to Shreveport Police Public Information Officer Marcus Hines, on January 17, authorities, acting on information received via a Crime Stoppers tip, located and arrested 22-year-old Shreveport resident Ashleigh Phillips who is accused of committing a vehicle burglary last week.

On January 11, Shreveport Police officers responded to a reported vehicle burglary after the victim notified authorities that while looking through her car she noticed that her wallet along with other items were missing.

"When the victim called to cancel her credit cards, she was informed that her credit card had been used at a local retailer," Hines said. "Investigators were able to recover surveillance footage from the business where the card was used and posted the image of the alleged suspect on the Crime Stoppers website."

After the footage was posted, several leads were called into Crime Stoppers, which led officers to Phillips in the 9000 block of Youree Drive Thursday where she was taken into custody.

"A subsequent investigation by detectives was conducted during which time items stolen from the victim were located inside the home of Phillips," Hines said. "Phillips was also linked to at least three other burglaries that occurred the same night of the original reported burglary."

Following interviews with detectives, Phillips was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of vehicle burglary, forgery and possession of a legend drug.

Hines said investigators are expecting additional charges in the matter.
