Earth to kids: Time for camp

For nearly a decade, children have been coming to the Farm for the annual summer 'Earth' Camp sponsored by Cultural Crossroads.

Creating works of art from recycled and natural material, children ages 6 through 16 have found the experience both memorable and rewarding.

June 13 through 17 has been reserved for children ages 6 through 10 while June 20 through 24 has been set-aside for ages 11 through 16. Class size will be limited to 24, according to instruction artist Chris Broussard.

Chris"The children will create several pieces of art while they are here," Broussard said. "We usually try to complete a project a day."

The camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon each day and a morning snack is provided. Cost of the camp is $125 with all supplies and snacks included. An early bird discount is being offered to those who register before May 15. Children enrolled will also receive a free camp t-shirt.

Broussard, a local professional artist, has been the main instructor for the art camp since its inception.

Broussard, founder and former owner of The Children's Center has been teaching art to children for more than 25 years.

Her vast experience in bringing the joy of art to children has created quite a following of young budding artists who return each year for this summer experience.

Earth camp is held each year on the four-acre festival site known as the Farm located at 417 East Union in Minden.

Registration forms are available on the organization's website at www.artsinminden.
