COA Health Fair is good deal

The Thirteenth Annual Health Fair for senior citizens will be Friday, October 14, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Minden Civic Center.

The Webster Parish Council on Aging along with the City of Minden, Minden Medical Center and Walgreen Pharmacy are sponsoring the free-of-charge event.

According to Dathene Brown, Council on Aging director, the health fair is an opportunity for parish residents 60 years of age and older to come in and get important free screenings and free information.

Available screenings will include blood sugar screenings, blood pressure and oxygen levels. Flu shots will also be available.

Anyone interested in getting a flu shot, which will be provided by Walgreen Pharmacy, must present his or her Medicare card.

Health screenings and information are not the only items on the agenda. There will be a cakewalk at 9:30 a.m., BINGO will begin at 10:15 a.m. and lunch will follow at 11:30 a.m. Also, door prizes, provided by the approximately 40 vendors, will be awarded throughout the day.

Anyone needing transportation to the health fair must call their council on aging to make arrangements. Those needing a ride in the Minden area, call 371-3056 and in the Springhill area, call 539-2510.
