Funeral services for James M. Downs will be held Tuesday April 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be Rev. Steven Smithson and Rev. Don McCormick. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. today (Monday, April 8, 2013) at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
James Maxwell Downs passed away April 6, 2013 at home in Minden, at the age of 84. James was born Dec. 28, 1928 and raised in Castor. He was a lifelong member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Castor. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married Elsie Christine Woodard of Ringgold and after returning from war they moved to Minden and he went to work for KCS Railroad and retired from KCS in 1991.
James was preceded in death by his first wife Elsie; daughter, Peggy VanAsche; and sister, Palma Page.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Downs; sons, Jimmy and wife, Gail Downs and Terry and wife, Cyndi Downs; sister, Betty Jean and husband, Leon Taylor; stepdaughter, Annette and husband, David Moseley; stepson, Tracy and Karamie Gray; grandchildren, Kevin Downs, Crystal Miller, Jeffrey Downs, Jonathon Downs, Jennifer Martin, Andrew Downs, William Downs, Alex Downs, Nathan Moseley, Natalie Moseley, Travis Gray and Claudia Gray; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by special friends and his domino buddies, Kip and George Mourad, Mac McQuiller, Willard McClung, Bob Igo, Guy Mandino, Winky Newer, Marty Fletcher and Gerald Glover.
The family extends special thanks to the doctors and staff of St. Joseph Hospice.
