Crimson Tide rolls past Haynesville, 58-36

The Minden Crimson Tide opened up their play in the Holiday Classic with a 58-36 win over Haynesville Thursday night.

"It was a good first round win for us," Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "And that's what you want to do in your tournament. We were able to get everybody in and this should get us going for the rest of the tournament.

The Tide jumped out to a 20-2 first quarter lead and then led 40-7 at the half. The teams played pretty close (29-28) in the second half.

"We played well, especially in the first half," Shaw said. "Our defense was pretty good. Obviously, Haynesville isn't at the place we are right now. Coach Amos has only had three practices since he got his football players back. But they are a diamond in the rough, and they're going to be pretty good before this year is over."

Shaw was pleased with his starters, and with his bench players as well.

"I was proud of our guy's effort," he said. "Even when we had a big lead, things didn't get too sloppy. We stayed focused with our game plan and running our offense. I thought we held out composure pretty well."

Anfernee Red led the Tide with 12 points and C.J. Elkins and Leondre Forbes each added 10. Elgin Moore, Kevin Hamilton and Tra Thornton all added seven points. Reggie Seamster scored five.

"We had some other guys step up tonight," Shaw said. "I thought Anfernee probably played his best game of the season. He looked really good on both ends of the floor. He was real active on defense and he hit some big shots."

The Crimson Tide will now play Doyline at 8:30 p.m. tonight.

"It ought to be a good game," Shaw said. "It's been a rivalry since before I got here. We're expecting a good crowd with good energy because of the local flavor. Doyline is quick and can shoot the ball really well."

Other scores:

North Caddo 62, North Webster 48

Lyntravious Gipson led North Webster with 22 points and Montavious Smith and Devin White each added nine points.

Benton 55, Ringgold 44; El Dorado (AR) 89, Lakeview 83
