HAYNESVILLE — The Doyline Panthers beat Summerfield, 9-5, in the first round of the Haynesville Tournament.
Gage Brunson evened his record to 1-1 as he got the win for the Panthers. Brunson went all seven innings and struck out 15.
"He really pitched well," Doyline coach John Austin said. "He gave us a chance with his performance."
Micheal Augustine led the team with a double and a single, and Peyton Goerner, Zach Jordan and Luke Watson all had two singles each. Austin Culverhouse and James Gaynor both added singles.
"We didn't have the errors on defense we have been having and we put the bat on the ball," Austin said. "All that with Gage doing his job got us a win."
The Panthers will now play two games today. At 5:15 p.m. they will take on Bradley, Arkansas, and then at 7:15 p.m. the Panthers will take on Haynesville.
