A Minden man, who shucked his shoes while trying to outrun police in a footchase, has been arrested on drug charges.
Zachariahe Walker, 17, of the 300 block of Shane Drive, was charged with possession of CDS Sch. I marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer by flight.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said Ofc. Shawn Jenkins, Ofc. Danny Turner and Ofc. Chase Wimberly were patroling Stone and Marion streets Thursday evening, looking for another subject.
"Officer Turner ran across two male subjects that began fleeing on foot," Cropper said. "Turner saw Walker run and radioed the other officers, who tried to box Walker in."
When Walker fled, the officers reportedly pursued him on foot.
"He ran toward Stone Street, kicked off his shoes, continued to run across Carolina Street and headed northbound on Young Street," Cropper said.
When he approached a fence, Walker reportedly tried to crawl underneath.
"Ofc. Jenkins caught up to him then and was able to subdue him," said the chief. "He was placed in handcuffs and advised of his rights."
Cropper said officers located suspected marijuana during a pat-down and during search of a bag Walker had on his person.
"At the police department, they weighed the marijuana on electronic scales," Cropper said. "The combined amount of the suspected marijuana was 102 grams with a street value of around $500. Walker was also carrying $224 in cash."
Walker was booked and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
