Funeral services for Mary J. Thompson, 78 were to be held at 11 a.m. today (Monday May 14, 2012), at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. The Rev. Jim Frazier would officiate. Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Interment was held at Brushwood Cemetery in Dubberly.
Mrs. Thompson was born on Oct. 24, 1933 in Clarksburg, Tennessee and entered into rest May 12, 2012, in Minden.
Her special interest in life was assisting her husband in his ministry. She worked several years as a newspaper reporter in her spare time. She loved to cook, read and do home decorating.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Nels Thompson, Jr.; her parents, James Leon and Lillie Mae Joyner; and a special aunt and uncle, Arline and Leslie Robinson of Clarksburg.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, Jimmy Thompson and wife, T.J. of Heflin; her grandson, Jared Thompson; great-grandson Alexzander of Minden; and host of relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Shannon Finley, Ron Werner, Harold Robison, Buddy Slaid, Tracey Winget and Dick Tatum.
