What Matters Most

Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

When you closely examine a person's life you can tell what matters most to them by the participation and effort that they put forth.

For example, you can tell when someone enjoys what they do, because there is an overwhelming excitement to do that very thing. When we began to examine the life of Jesus we note one thing that mattered most to Him. Winning lost souls. Jesus would make statements like, "I came to seek and save them that are lost". Jesus confounded the disciples one day by saying, "My meat is to do the will of the Father". Jesus was passionate about winning souls and it fed Him spiritually like meat would in the natural to do God's will (John 3:17, John 4:34).

As we note in the text above Jesus has selected the seventy disciples and sent them out two by two (Luke 10:1). Before Jesus sends them out, He has a big announcement to make that would help the seventy understand what really mattered the most. He said unto them, "the harvest is great". Harvest referring to the souls or people that were in need of a Savior. Note that Jesus did not say that something was wrong with the Harvest. But we note that He did say that there was something wrong with the LABOURERS, "for they are few". Labourers referring to those that are willing to toil and work aggressively to win souls into the body of Christ. "For they are FEW", meaning that there aren't as many people willing to labour to win people to Christ. Jesus then helps the seventy to understand what was necessary in order that there may be more labourers. That being, Prayer. Jesus' will was to win lost souls. And that is one assignment that the believer should never lose sight of. The things that should matter to us should be secondary to winning souls. What matters most to you?
