Technical Sergeant Mark C. Chumley distinguished himself by meritorious service while assigned to 917th Maintenance Squadron, 917 Fighter Group, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. During this time, Sergeant Chumley designed a streamlined training program to instruct newly assigned Airmen on advanced fabrication procedures, ensuring timely and quality upgrade training.
Additionally, while Metals Technology Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Operation PATRIOT DIXIE, Sergeant Chumley machined a new aircraft panel using only existing, unserviceable parts as a template. His superior coordination with the Georgia Air National Guard to utilize facilities was instrumental to returning the aircraft to service and contributed to 76 sorties and expenditure of 212 munitions. Finally, Sergeant Chumley augmented the Arkansas Air National Guard during their Air Expeditionary Force tasking to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
While deployed, he successfully machined unprocurable throttle alignment pins for the Afghan Air Force Helicopter Program, markedly assisting that country's growing defense efforts. The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Chumley reflect credit upon himself and The United States Air Force.
