Police lieutenant climbs to captain

DSC 0006Long-time Minden Police officer Dan Weaver has been promoted from rank of lieutenant to that of captain, following a unanimous vote of the Minden City Council Monday.

"Lt. Weaver is very dedicated and loyal and strives to make the police department as good as it can be," said Chief Steve Cropper. "He is very worthy of this promotion."

Weaver has been an officer with the City of Minden Police Department since November 1990. He passed the Fire and Police Civil Service Police Captain examination in August.

"I've been with the police department for 23 years, and I have enjoyed every day I come to work," Weaver said.

In addition to Weaver's promotion, council members also approved the hiring of two new firefighters, Adam Christopher Bradley and Daniel Davidson, subject to passing all applicable tests.

Other Business

Other items approved by the council include the following:

Condemned property at 608 Walnut Street, District A – a family member was given 90 days to demolish the building and clean up the property;

Adopted an ordinance to make the public aware of surplus property for disposal at Buck Street;

Adopted an ordinance to make the public aware of surplus property for disposal at Pershing and Fulton streets;

Adopted an ordinance to make the public aware of surplus property for disposal at Rebecca and Morrow streets;

Adopted an ordinance to make the public aware of surplus property for disposal at Bayou Avenue and Jason Lane;

Adopted an ordinance governing the sale of adjudicated property;

Adopted a resolution endorsing and supporting the Louisiana Economic Development's Ready Communities Program;

Adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute all documents pertaining to the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism Marketing Grant pertaining to the

Fasching Fifth Season Festival;

Adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute all documents pertaining to the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism Marketing Grant pertaining to Main to Main

Trade Days;

Accepted Quitclaim Redemption Deed for property needed for a sewer right-of-way;

Addressed surplus properties where no bids were accepted;

Awarded a bid for scrap metal to Troy's Auto Salvage; and,

Heard the monthly police report.
